Languages Day 2026

On March 19th and 20th, over 100 languages students from eight schools and highschools from around Tasmania were welcomed on campus for a university taster and tea ceremony.

Year 11+12 students of Languages are invited to join us for a Japanese themed cultural experience and celebration – learn about matsuri, tea ceremony, and samurai – and discover where Languages can take you.

More than just matcha lattes, the tea ceremony plays an important part in celebrations and matsuri. Learn about the importance of tea as a status symbol, trade product and communication tool. There will be an opportunity for some students to try tea as part of the traditional tea ceremony.

Session will also include information on Language learning pathways and opportunities including short and long term exchange programs such as UniGO and New Columbo Plan.

Brought to you with support from the Japan Foundation Sakura Network and Japan Studies Association Australia.

Tea ceremony performed by Minako Stewart from the Sakura Japanese Culture Centre
