Artist statement: Princess Emeraude is based on manga collective CLAMP’s 1990 space epic, Magic Knight Rayearth. She is the princess of a magical space planet, trapped in a doomed romance. The magic and grandeur of silk brings this wearable art piece to life, giving it an operatic quality. The bodice has been drafted using 18th Century methods and the 20 metres of hems have been hand finished.
The dress is part magical girl dream dress, part romantic wedding dress fantasy, part space armour.
