The Australia Japan Society Tasmania

is proud to present:

‘Cosplay Catwalk’

Japan inspired cosplay and street fashion parade.
4 pm Saturday, 26th March 2011 Derwent Room, Wrest Point Casino

‘Cosplay Catwalk’ is a Japan inspired cosplay and street fashion parade that showcases the talent of some of Tasmania’s best cosplayers including Australian World Cosplay Summit Representative 2011, Tessa Beattie. ‘Cosplay Catwalk’ is an ideal opportunity to see a facet of Japanese popular youth culture that is not often seen in Australia outside of a certain sub-cultural setting.

‘Cosplay Catwalk’ will take the form of a fashion parade followed by a question and answer session in which audience members will be able to ask questions of the models regarding their interest in cosplay, anime and Japanese popular culture. Throughout the event, commentary will be provided by an academic from the University of Tasmania who works in the field of Japan studies and popular culture.

This event will be beneficial to students of Japanese language and culture, those interested in Asian culture, fans of comics and cartoons, those interested in textiles and fashion design, media and popular culture studies.

Held just days after the disasterous 3/11 Tohoku earthquakes in Japan, this event was turned into a fund raiser for victims of the catastrophy.

Supported by the Australia Japn Society Tasmania and MC’d by Dr Craig Norris.

The following content was gathered from the event website and from photographers CrimOtaku and Jessica Kate Casey.
